The route is the race.
Every career race venue has 18 ordered checkpoints. The HUD shows your next checkpoint and the minimap shows the route. You must pass the gates in sequence; crossing the scenery or missing a gate cannot produce a valid finish.
Select a route card in the game menu, then choose Practice this route to use all cars and modifications without career rewards or public leaderboard records. For a career run, choose Race and select a solo time trial or bot opponents. A multiplayer host chooses the shared route for everyone.
If you get stuck, the default R reset returns you behind your last validated checkpoint. On your first run, use the road markers and minimap to learn the sequence rather than judging every section by how open its surroundings look.
Car, parts, transmission, traffic and opponents can all change the experience. Hold them steady when comparing two runs. The tips below are practice suggestions, not a fastest-line claim or a difficulty ranking.
Meet the 14 race routes.
These are the current route names and settings shown in Overdrive. The preview images are the game's actual route-selection images. Choose the same name in the menu to drive that venue.

01 / COAST
Coastline Sprint
Golden hour · waterfront
A waterfront road in warm evening light, framed by coastal scenery. It is a useful place to establish a familiar car and compare clean runs.
Practice focus: keep one build, then work on earlier braking and a steadier corner exit.

02 / NIGHT
Shinsei Night Run
Midnight · city express
A Japanese-inspired night city with illuminated storefronts, signs and skyline details. The road and checkpoint markers carry you through the changing city scene.
Practice focus: use the minimap and reflectors to read the next turn; enjoy the lights without losing the route.

03 / GRAND PRIX
Aurelia Grand Prix
Sunset · professional circuit
A dedicated circuit with paddock scenery and track furniture. City traffic selection is disabled for this venue.
Practice focus: use the same visual reference for braking on repeated runs, then compare an aero or tire change.

04 / MOUNTAIN
Kuroyama Pass
Morning mist · forest climb
A climbing mountain road surrounded by mist and forest. Its rising and turning route rewards learning what comes after each change in direction.
Practice focus: reduce entry speed when the road ahead is hidden, and leave room for the following turn.

05 / CANYON
Cinder Valley
Late sun · desert highway
A desert highway through sandstone mesas in late-afternoon light. Elevation changes and bends interrupt the open-looking landscape.
Practice focus: use NOS only once you have checked the next visible section, then brake before the bend.

06 / DOCKLANDS
Port Meridian
Blue hour · industrial waterfront
A dockland route passing container yards, warehouses, cranes and storage tanks. Freighters and moving cargo details give the port its working atmosphere.
Practice focus: follow the road and checkpoint sequence rather than a gap in the industrial scenery.

07 / BLOSSOM
Sakura Riverside
Spring daylight · village and blossoms
A daytime road with riverside village scenery and spring blossoms. Its lighter scene offers a different backdrop for an ordinary practice run.
Practice focus: choose one difficult corner and make its exit repeatable before attempting the whole route at maximum pace.

08 / ALPINE
Hakusan Skyline
Crisp morning · snowy mountain pass
A mountain-pass setting with snow and crisp morning light. Use the road geometry and checkpoint direction as your guide through the alpine landscape.
Practice focus: look ahead through successive turns instead of making late corrections at each checkpoint.

09 / SPEEDWAY
Redline Speedway
Desert sunset · high-speed circuit
A high-speed circuit in desert sunset light. This is a natural venue for comparing gearing and where a car stops gaining useful speed.
Practice focus: compare Close and Long ratio gearing with the same other parts; more straight-line speed can demand earlier braking.

10 / EXPRESSWAY
Bayshore Express
Blue hour · coastal skyline
An expressway with a coastal skyline at blue hour. The changing horizon and road lighting make it a different visual setting from the daytime routes.
Practice focus: align the car before a straight and reserve enough attention for its exit.

11 / WATERFRONT
Mirai Waterfront
After dark · neon marina boulevard
A waterfront boulevard with marina scenery and neon after dark. It is the second night setting in the race catalog, distinct from Shinsei’s city express.
Practice focus: pick a comfortable graphics setting so the road remains readable through the lights.

12 / VINEYARD
Valle d’Oro
Golden evening · vineyard road
A road through vineyard scenery in golden evening light. It is shown in the Aurora driving screenshot on this site.
Practice focus: build a clean baseline with automatic gears before testing a manual-transmission run.

13 / FOREST
Cedar Ridge
Morning light · wooded switchbacks
A forest setting in morning light with wooded switchbacks. The surroundings make each change of direction feel enclosed rather than wide open.
Practice focus: brake before steering and avoid carrying a drift into the next change of direction.

14 / AIRFIELD
Runway Zero
Clear afternoon · airfield circuit
An airfield circuit under a clear afternoon sky. Aviation scenery provides the setting while the marked road and ordered checkpoints define the race.
Practice focus: follow the designated route; a wide piece of airfield pavement is not a substitute for the checkpoint sequence.
Two venues with a different purpose.
Velocity Test Park
Choose Free test track to open a proving ground with every car and modification available to borrow. It is built for testing rather than career purchases. Use the race menu to change the test car and parts. Your test setup does not replace your owned garage, and these laps have no career cash or public leaderboard entries.
Motor Social
This separate online car meet includes a plaza, parking bays, drift apron and outer track. Up to 50 guests or account players can bring their owned cars and fitted modifications. It uses a managed online service, so you do not need to host a race room. Drivers can see other cars and chat; contact is ghosted.
Motor Social is a place to share a build and drive casually, rather than one of the 14 checkpoint race routes. It needs an internet connection and the meet service to be available.
Make one change you can judge.
- Finish one ordinary run. Use a familiar car, automatic transmission if helpful, and no random build. Learn the turn order.
- Choose a focus. It could be staying on the road, releasing the handbrake earlier, or saving NOS for a straight you know.
- Repeat without changing everything. The same car and route help you see whether the driving adjustment is useful.
- Then try one part change. For example, compare tires or gearing and repeat the same sections. A faster car with more errors may not give a better finish.
Traffic settings apply where the venue permits them. Aurelia Grand Prix disables city traffic selection. In a multiplayer lobby, a host changing the route resets everyone's readiness, so check the new route before readying up again.
